1816 Large Cent. N-4 VF20
$100.00
“Open Mouth”, R3-. A very easily identifiable variety, the open mouth a result of lapping of the dies. On the reverse, the D of UNITED is lightly doubled at the bottom as described in John Wright’s “The Cent Book”. Obverse surface has an almost hammered look, though there is no actual damage, just a mottled appearance. Insignificant contact marks at star three and between the 8 and second 1 of the date.
